Each year on Memorial Day G.A.R. Cemetery holds their annual Memorial Day Ceremony. This year’s event will be held at 9:30 a.m. by the G.A.R. Monument and Flag.

The City of Miami, G.A.R. Cemetery, is pleased to host their annual Memorial Day Ceremony for the public on Monday, May 31st, at 9:30 a.m. We are honored to welcome the local Veteran’s organizations with their continued participation, and Hunter Bissell G.A.R. Cemetery Maintenance will be our vocalist. Hunter will be playing the guitar and singing Amazing Grace.
Our guest speaker this year is Ben Loring. Ben is a longtime resident of the City of Miami, has served as the District Attorney, First Assistant District Attorney, State Representative and currently serves as Miami City Attorney. He and his wife Barbara have two sons, David and Ian, both of whom are Eagle Scouts and served in the US Army.
As always, we welcome the public to join us for the ceremony. Due to the need for continued social distancing, there will be limited seating in place; therefore, we encourage everyone to bring their lawn chairs. With these continued guidelines it is our intent to live stream our ceremony on Facebook for those that cannot come but still wish to experience it. If you do not follow G.A.R. “The G.A.R. Cemetery staff are dedicated to honoring our veterans and will have flags available in front of the office for you to place on their graves. This is something that we do all year for the public’s use.” stated Nancy Bro, G.A.R. Cemetery Office Mgr.
